Jeff has given me the keys to the bus, so I am your tour guide this coming weekend.
We’re going to do our own ride, since he has pronounced the real RTS route as dull.
Here is what we will do: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2390147
This will take us into some new territory for the Cheasty Boys – ‘Schoolhouse Hill’ in south Woodinville (mile 25.5-28), the ever-famous Norway Hill in Bothell (33-35), Simonds Road (36-37) and a little treat I ‘discovered’ a few weeks ago off the Burke at 42.5.
As you can see, with a start/finish from Cafe Umbria, the mileage (56) is right on track with RTS progression, but the elevation is a bit more (4400′). For the Westies, the total mileage will be right around 70, rt from their homes.
My hope is that everyone will make this, despite some varying fitness levels and base miles. Thus, I’ve put together an alternate-alternative which cuts out some climbing and shaves off three miles, but generally follows the same path.
This could be altered even more, such as staying on East Riverside at mile 31, avoiding Norway Hill altogether, and hopping on the Burke for a meetup with the rest of the guys in Kenmoore.
In this spirit, I’d like to describe this ride as “going for the distance; some pain is good, but extreme pain is for masochists.”
It seems to me that a logical place for a pit stop is the Starbucks in Kenmoore (mile 38) where break-ups can rejoin. This will put the major climbs behind us. Bring pocket vittles to keep you gassed until then.
Let’s roll from Cafe Umbria at 8:30am – sharp. Westies leave Chelan Cafe at 7:45. That’ll give us time for a leisurely roll to the start and a coffee.

Riders,
8:30 departure from Cafe Umbria in Occidental Park.
Our weatherman Kenny Kramers says we won’t see rain. Having said that, make your best judgement in the morning. For the new guys joining us, fenders with flaps are expected if the roads are wet.
Bring snacks to chow on. We’ll stop for a food break at mile 38 (45 from West Seattle).
Westies depart Chelan Cafe at 7:45.
